MUMBAI, is India`s largest city and is considered the financial capital of the country as it generates 5% of the total GDP. It serves as an economic hub in India, contributing 70% of capital transactions to India`s economy, 25% of industrial output and 40% of India`s foreign trade. 
Mumbai is the home of the chemical and petrochemical industry, as well as of companies from the mechanical engineering branch.
Many of India`s numerous conglomerates and five of the Fortune Global 500 companies are based in Mumbai. A big part of the foreign banks and financial institutions also have their branches in this area, with the World Trade Center being the most prominent one. Until the 1970s, Mumbai owed its prosperity largely to textile mills and the seaport, but the local economy has since been diversified to include engineering, diamond-polishing, healthcare and information technology. The main consumers for analysis equipment and laboratory technologies include the region`s chemicals, medication and fertilizer industries. The region is also home to most of the country`s petrochemicals industry. As the state with the largest population in India, Maharashtra also plays an important role in food processing and textile production for analysis when it comes to quality assurance and environmental monitoring.
